VENEZIA-VARESE: THE PRESS ROOM

Coach Attilio Caja at the end of Umana Reyer Venezia-Pallacanestro Openjobmetis Varese:

«We have won a very significant victory on a tough court and against a great team. Venezia’s positive start validates our battle even more – today we have won twice. After Reyer’s sensational start in the first quarter, we were good at grinding away in our game, and continued to make the right choices. We closed off the area because we were afraid of their plays under the basket. For this reason, we chose to double up all their long plays. This move penalised us in the first quarter but, in the long run, Reyer’s percentages dropped and we continued to believe. In attack, we had good fluidity, and understood their defensive plays well. So, in the end, we ended up with only nine balls lost in an away game. In basketball, numbers are important and, thanks to our internal plays, we were good at keeping an eye on the rebounds and starting off immediately on the breaks. I congratulate the lads, who played with great spirit and great attitude. They always believed in it and for this they were rewarded».
