Coach Attilio Caja at the end of The Flexx Pistoia-Pallacanestro Openjobmetis Varese:
«When I said that Pistoia was a good team and that it would be an extremely difficult match, it was because I was expecting a match of this kind. I must say that we started very well. Actually the way we began, we should really have been ahead in the first half. We managed to defend hard, but in offense we couldn’t get it together, even because of some easy lost balls that cost us a number of baskets on the counterattack. We could have been further ahead because we knew that our goal was to keep the game together on a point-by-point basis. We managed to claw back and the final two 3-pointer shots – that we bungled – and the two 3-pointer Pistoia shots were what really left a mark on the game. These episodes were positive for them and negative for us and, in the end, Pistoia deserved to win the game. If we had scored those two baskets, the ending would probably have been different. In the end, it went how it went. We knew we couldn’t have kept winning every game. Our goal was to be competitive and dignified. As far as I’m concerned, I’ve never praised myself to excess, even after four consecutive victories. Now we have to start again with the aim that we have a team behind us. And, when this is the aim, we must try to play each game and try to be dignified and solid. Today on a difficult court we were just that, but we couldn’t manage to get the required number of lead players».
