CANTÙ-VARESE: THE PRESS ROOM

Coach Attilio Caja at the end of Acqua S.Bernardo Cantù-Openjobmetis Varese Basketball:

«We ran into one of the few days we suffered heavily in the area. Cantù dominated us, when we played our best offensively very positive basketball in a first half, Acqua San Bernardo stayed in the game with offensive rebounds. Even in defence, we did excellent things keeping Gaines under the average, and working well on Carr and Blakes. But we suffered too much inside the area and, more importantly, that 29-47 rebound was decisive. Well done to the hosts who had more strength in the frame – when Scrubb went under in the second half, no other external player gave Avramovic a hand in playing the game. We were under in the third quarter and in the fourth, the 0/6 3-pointers penalised us. No regrets for Cantù’s deserved victory, who closed with 5 foreigners in double figures against our 2. We are very happy with what we have done so far – if at the beginning of the year someone had told us that at 3 days from the end we would have 28 points, I would have signed without thinking. And we still have a chance of getting some more victories in the bag, so you won’t ever hear me criticise my players. We are going to try to do the best we can in these last 3 games but, however it goes, I’ll be very happy with what we have done, and will do, and, as always, I’ll thank everyone. Even today, we played an excellent first half, then some team limitations reared their heads but, if the willingness is always at number 10, the limitations are no one’s fault».
