The fantastic second half of the season saw Openjobmetis Varese as the leading players of a historical comeback from last place to the end of the current sixth, with access to the Scudetto playoffs that had not been available to Varese for 5 seasons. This gave coach Attilio Caja well-deserved recognition for the work he has carried out together with his staff. The Pavian technician, voted by a jury made up of general managers, coaches and captains of the 16 Serie A teams, as well as a panel of specialised journalists, was elected best coach of the Regular Season 2017/18.
The piazza Monte Grappa club was also delighted for general manager Claudio Coldebella, who came third in the best manager category (first was Federico Casarin of Venice) and for Stanley Okoye who came third in the MVP category of the championship (first was Jason Rich of Avellino). This was a satisfying overall result not only for Varese Basketball which reflected the excellent work that was carried out by the team and the technical staff on court but also for how the company has positioned itself on the market and in its resource management.
The Lega Basketball Awards will be presented tomorrow morning, Thursday 10 May 2018, in the prestigious Corriere della Sera Sala Buzzati in Milan.
