KRISTJAN KANGUR REMAINS WITH PALLACANESTRO VARESE

Openjobmetis Varese Basketball announces that it has reached an agreement to renew its contract with Kristjan Kangur. The Estonian player has signed a contract that will keep him at the Red & White’s club for the next two seasons, thus further extending his stay at Varese. The confirmation of Kristjan Kangur allows Openjobmetis Varese Basketball yet again to avail itself of a player wearing a Red & White jersey who has never failed in his contribution to the team because of the technical and human qualities of a true leader. The renewal of Kristjan Kangur represents an important step in the formation of a team that will face the 2016/2017 season.

Antonio Bulgheroni, counsellor Pallacanestro Openjobmetis Varese: «I'm very happy with the renewal of Kristjan Kangur’s contract. He is fundamental for the team that is being established. A man, exemplary professional with a blend of experience and skill, and a great defender, he will definitely bring value added on the court and in the locker room. For coach Moretti and the Red & White’s fans, this is a truly important result».

Kristjan Kangur, forward, Pallacanestro Openjobmetis Varese: «I am absolutely delighted to return to play at Varese, my second home. My family and I feel great here and we feel part of the city. There are many great things happening in Varese Basketball and I promise to help bring new successes and joys to the Red & White’s fans. Go Varese!»

Kangur began his professional career in Tallinn in 2000. In Estonia, he played four seasons at BC Kalev/Cramo, the team with whom he won two championships (2002 and 2003) and a national cup (2001). In 2004, he went to Germany to play at Bayer Leverkusen. In 2006, he then returned to BC Kalev/Cramo to play in 108 games, winning three Estonia Cups (2006, 2007 and 2008) and a Championship (2009). In the 2008/2009 season, he was named MVP of the Estonian League after closing at 12 points on average per game. In 2009, he moved to France to play in Villeurbanne with Asvel where he also took part in the Euroleague (6 points and 2 rebounds per game) and won the Super Cup and the Semaine des As Cup. In 2010, he arrived in Italy, played at Virtus Bologna, and succeeded in reaching the playoffs in Serie A. In the few games available to him, he managed to attract the interest of Varese who signed a contract with him. With the Red & Whites, he played 68 games from 2010 to 2012 before moving on to Siena where they conquered the 2012/2013 Scudetto and the Italian Cup. After one season with Montepaschi, he moved on to Olimpia Milano where he won the championship. In 2014/2015, he returned to Varese where he made 7.8 points (36.7% 2 points and 41.4% 3 points) with 6.2 rebounds and 2 assists in 31.4 minutes per game. After an excellent personal challenge with the Estonian jersey in Eurobasket 2015 (7.4 points and 3.2 rebounds), last year he reached a bimonthly agreement at Laboral Kutxa Vitoria, an experience that will see a new return to Varese Basketball where he will help to take the Red & Whites to the finals of the FIBA Europe Cup.
