VARESE IN THE 70s AND BISSON IN THE ITALIAN BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME

By proposal of the Honours Commission of Italy's Basketball Hall of Fame 2015, Pallacanestro Varese 1970-1979 and Iwan Bisson have been decorated by the Federal Council – the highest honour in the Italian Basketball Federation.

In this way, FIP recognises and celebrates the 1970-1979 decade which has been permanently written into the history books by Varese, the only basketball team in the history of European basketball which has a total of ten consecutive Champion’s cups (currently Eurolega) winning the continental trophy 5 times. The legendary exploits are thus recognised in which the extraordinary teams of Ignis and then Mobilgirgi, and finally Emerson, marked an era in Italian and European basketball.

Iwan Bisson, born in 1946, from Macerata, played in Varese Basketball from 1970 to1978 – admission to the Italian Basketball Hall of Fame is a deserved recognition after a fabulous career spent almost entirely at Varese. On court, he was the prototype of the modern wing – Iwan, the great defender, was rapid and he was equipped with a very effective jump shot. He was one of the pillars of Ignis-Girgi who, in those years, dominated wherever they went.

Other award-winners from Federbasket will be Bianca Rossi (athletes), Bogdan Tanjevic (coaches) and Achille Canna (A life for basketball). The awards will soon be presented at a forthcoming event.
