DENZEL ANDERSSON, NEW RED & WHITE PLAYER

Varese Basketball is pleased to announce the signing of Denzel Andersson. Swedish wing, 203 cm and 95 kg, Andersson has signed a contract with the Red & Whites until the end of the 2020-2021 season, with an option for the following one. This is Andersson’s first experience away from his home country. Last year, wearing a Luleå Basketball Club jersey, he was named best Swedish player in the league, as well as best defender. Denzel is a dynamic athlete both in attack, where he often finishes at the ring, and in defence, where he has shown excellent blocking timing. He is also able to open up play with a good 3-point shooting. **Denzel Andersson, forward, Openjobmetis Varese basketball:** *«I’m super excited to be playing for the Varese fans and can’t wait to meet my new team mates and the whole Varese Basketball family. I’m sure we’re going to have fun next year»*. Denzel was born in Sundsvall on 21 September 1996 and, following in the footsteps of his father Jerome (NBA champion with a Boston jersey in 1976) and his mother Kristina (coach), he started playing basketball at the Sundsvall Dragons before moving on to BG Luleå BK, in the second level of the Swedish basketball league. He moved up the ranks to Basketball Club Luleå in 2015. His efficiency improved from year to year (he made a valuable contribution to the championship victory in 2017) until last season when he was decisive in winning the national cup with the 15 points (34.3% 3-pointers) and 7 average rebounds per game, and was named best Swedish player and best defender in the championship. Andersson also wore his national team jersey last year at the preliminaries of Eurobasket 2021. In the two games he played, he scored 4.5 points, 4 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.
