OPENJOBMETIS SIGNS KRISTJAN KANGUR

A welcome return home to Openjobmetis Varese Basketball. Kristjan Kangur is indeed a new face to the Red & White’s. The Estonian Wing at a height of 202 cm and weight of 100 kg, who signed a contract with the club until the end of the season, returns to Varese after having played in the 2010/2011, 2011/2012 and 2014/2015 seasons. Born in Parnu in Estonia on 23 October 1982, Kangur comes to the ‘Garden City’ from Laboral Kutxa Vitoria. Last September, wearing the national jersey as captain, he played in Eurobasket 2015 racking up 7.4 points, with 3.2 rebounds on average per game.

Career:

Kristjan Kangur began his professional career in Tallinn in 2000. In Estonia, he played four seasons at BC Kalev / Cramo, the team with whom he won two championships (2002 and 2003) and a national cup (2001). In 2004, he moved to Bayer Leverkusen in Germany. In 2006, he then returned to BC Kalev / Cramo and played 108 games, winning three Estonia Cups (2006, 2007 and 2008) and a championship (2009). In the 2008/2009 season, he was named MVP of the Estonia League after closing at 12 points per game. In 2009, he moved to the French Asvel Villeurbanne team for whom he took part in the Euroleague (6 points and 2 rebounds per game) and won the Super Cup and the Semain des As Cup. In 2010, he transferred to Virtus Bologna in Italy where he took part in the playoffs in Serie A. In just a few games, he managed to attract the interest of Varese who then signed him up. With the Red & Whites, he played 68 games from 2010 to 2012 before moving on to Siena where he won the Scudetto and the Italian Cup in 2012/2013. After one season with Montepaschi, he moved to Olimpia Milano winning the championship. In 2014/2015, he returned to Varese where he amassed 7.8 points (36.7% from 2 and 41.4% from 3) with 6.2 rebounds and 2 assists in 31.4 minutes on average. After an excellent performance with the Estonian jersey in Eurobasket 2015 (7.4 points and 3.2 rebounds), last October he obtained a bimonthly arrangement at Laboral Kutxa Vitoria, replacing the injured Tornike Shengelia.
