Pallacanestro Varese is happy to announce the signing of Iris Ikangi, a class ’94 player who will wear the Openjobmetis jersey from next season. Iris Ikangi is a physical and dynamic wing, capable of attacking the iron aggressively and defending with intensity on multiple roles. A versatile player, she combines athleticism, energy and rebounding presence, while also standing out for her ability to run the court and make an impact in transition situations.
Career
Born in Voghera on February 21, 1994, Ikangi grew up basketball-wise in Pallacanestro Pavia, a club with which he made his First Team debut in the 2011-2012 season. In 2013, he moved to Benedetto XIV Cento in Serie B and then, in 2015, to San Severo, where he turned in excellent performances that earned him the call of Scaligera Basket Verona in 2017, a team with which he made his debut in Serie A2, consolidating his profile among the most reliable players in the category. Ikangi’s career then takes a further leap with his landing at New Basket Brindisi, an experience that allows him to make his debut both in Serie A and in the European arena, playing in the Basketball Champions League. After a new stint at San Severo in the 2020-2021 season, he moved on to Scafati, contributing significantly to promotion to Serie A1. In 2022-2023, he remains A2, splitting his time between Turin and Chiusi, then moving to APU Udine, becoming one of the points of reference of the Friulian team and contributing to the conquest of the promotion to Serie A, a category in which Ikangi confirms himself among the protagonists of Udine’s excellent path, finishing with 5.4 points and 2.5 rebounds average, as well as 31.3% from three-point range. His athletic qualities, intensity and ability to mark multiple roles made him one of the best defenders in the league.
During his career he also wore the jersey of the Italian Under-20 national team, collecting 14 appearances and participating in the 2014 Under-20 European Championships held between Candia and Retimo, Greece.
